Stamp Out Hunger
Saturday, May 12, 2018
Each second Saturday of May, letter carriers across the country collect non-perishable food donations and coordinate with food pantries for distribution to those in need. Last year, tens of thousands of items were brought into Midland's postal docks, loaded up and distributed to local pantries. The portion that went to SAMS Pantry alone approached 8,000 items!!!
The volunteer effort to pull this off has to be an awesome one! We need LOTS of volunteers to check package integrity & use by dates for these thousands of items - and able-bodied folks to carry and place like items together for easier stocking later.
This effort begins around 3:00 PM at SAMS. It typically takes 3 hours, but actual time will depend on amount of food donations and our ultimate number of volunteers. Even if you can spare one hour, that provides tremendous help!
