Lieder Concert

An Afternoon of Lieder: Best Loved German Art Songs

Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 3:00 P.M.

Mezzo-soprano Kindra Scharich and pianist George Fee present “An Afternoon of Lieder:  Best Loved German Art Songs” at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Midland.   This concert provides a rare opportunity to hear a program comprised exclusively of the songs of Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Strauss, and Hugo Wolf, some of the most expressive music ever written. While admission is free, a suggested donation of $15 for this event is encouraged.

Kindra Scharich has been praised by the San Francisco Chronicle for her “exuberant vitality,” “fearless technical precision,” “deep-rooted pathos,” and “irrepressible musical splendor.”  She has sung 30 roles in operas ranging from Monteverdi to Philip Glass.  A great proponent of the Art Song, she has performed over 130 German Lieder in the past few years alone.  She is currently collaborating with the Alexander String Quartet on new arrangements of the great orchestral Lieder, which she will record with them later this year.  In the summer of 2016, Ms. Scharich performed a series of concerts in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she was presented at the acclaimed Sala Cecilia Meireles.  Her website is www.kindrascharich.com

Pianist George Fee has performed numerous solo recitals throughout the United States, and has presented dozens of master classes, lectures and workshops.  He received his doctorate in piano performance from Indiana University, where he was a student of Menahem Pressler.

This concert marks a homecoming for both artists.  Ms. Scharich grew up in Midland, studying piano at the Dersnah-Fee School of Music and voice with Gwendolyn Pike.  She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocal performance at the University of Michigan, before taking up residence in San Francisco CA.  Dr. Fee and his wife, Dr. Susan Dersnah Fee, taught in Midland from 1979-99, when they moved their studio to San Diego CA.  They recently returned to Midland where they are currently accepting piano and music theory students.   Their website is www.dersnah-fee.com
