What Can You Expect?

A warm welcome!

We try to lead worship in a way that is true to our inherited traditions while exploring new expressions of our faith.  Some of our members come to church in suits and dresses, others in jeans and t-shirts.  *Children are always welcome in church but for those parents who prefer, infant and toddler care is provided every Sunday beginning at 9:00am. *Visit our Children & Youth Formation page to learn more.

Please fill out and return the "Welcome/Connect" card you'll find in our pews; share whatever and whenever you're comfortable.

Annual Meeting Info

Sunday, January 28, 2018

St. John’s Annual Meeting will take place Sunday, January 28, 2018 beginning at 9:00AM.  Following format of the past two years, we will begin with the Liturgy of the Word and conclude with the Liturgy of the Table. In between our gathering’s liturgical parts, we’ll have elections, reports, and collaborative dialogue to discern our future together.  Lunch will be provided immediately following.

EVERYONE ATTENDING SHOULD LET US KNOW >>  Whether attending only the meeting with worship or staying for lunch, please contact our parish office: office@sjec-midland.org or (989) 631-2260.  We need accurate attendee numbers to plan for the meeting and order for lunch.

ANNUAL MEETING REPORT, AGENDA

The annual report for the completed 2017 year is available here.

The Sunday, January 28, 2018 annual meeting agenda is available here.

When ready, a few printed report copies will be placed in the church narthex and parish office but we are aiming to keep printing to a minimum.  Please feel welcome to request a printed copy or let us know if you have any trouble accessing or viewing.  Email office@sjec-midland.orgcall 631-2260 or stop by during parish office hours.

NOMINATIONS & ELECTIONS >>  During our annual meeting, elections for key lay leadership positions take place.  These include positions on our vestry, endowment committee and as diocesan convention delegates. Background information about these positions was published in our December 2017 Epistle (page 12).  Please prayerfully consider serving St. John's in one of these roles and/or consider how you may support those seeking election.  Nomination sign up sheets are outside Williams Hall.

PROPOSALS TO AMEND BYLAWS >>  As of January 4, 2018 we have not received any proposed bylaw changes.  If we do, we will ask congregation members to vote on them at the annual meeting.  If received in advance, proposals will be posted on the Williams Hall bulletin board and our website two: www.sjec-midland.org/bylaw-proposals.  Depending on when proposals are submitted, different voting thresholds apply.  Bylaws may be amended by an affirmative vote of a simple majority attending the meeting provided a quorum (50 voting members) is present and notice of the proposed amendment is included with the notice for the meeting, or by the affirmative vote of two-thirds (2/3rds) of the members in attendance if no prior notice has been given.   Anyone planning to make a proposal from the floor of the annual meeting is asked to bring sufficient print copies for distribution.  Please share related questions with our rector, Ken.

WORSHIP >>  The worship incorporated into our 9:00am annual meeting will be our only service that Sunday; there will not be an 8:00am or 10:00am worship service on January 28.

CHILDCARE >>  Childcare will be offered for this meeting.  Please include them in your *lunch rsvp #s if attending.
